AT&S’s R&D department operates its own laboratory in which a large number of analyses, measurements and experiments are carried out as part of the department’s research and development projects. The wide range of analytical technologies available extends from surface analytics, to energy-dispersive x-ray spectroscopy and infra-red spectroscopy, and to 2D and 3D microscopy and thermal analysis. There is also a range of tools available for sample handling and preparation, as well as general lab equipment. A complete list of the analysis and sample handling equipment can be found at the end of this article (R&D lab equipment). The range of equipment available is complemented by appropriate external cooperation, through which we have access to further technologies, such as atomic force microscopy (AFM), x-ray diffractometry (XRD), photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS/UPS) and thermogravimetry (TGA), etc.

 

In addition to pure research activities, a further main focus of the R&D laboratory is on supporting AT&S as a whole in production, quality control and sales activities. With the resources available to us we can provide useful information to supplement the standard analyses in connection with specific problems, special analyses or customer complaints. Special reliability tests, e.g., CAF tests and mechanical endurance testing can also be carried out.
